The Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
Announcements: August 10, 2025
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost on August 10, 2025
Genesis 15:1-6 Hebrews 11:1-16
Luke 12:22-40
22 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! 25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?[a] 26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,[b] yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. 30 For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, seek his[c] kingdom, and these things will be added to you.32 “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 5 “Stay dressed for action[d] and keep your lamps burning, 36 and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those servants[e] whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. 38 If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! 39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he[f] would not have left his house to be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

LIFE TOGETHER
VISITORS: We are so glad you joined us today. We collect offerings during our worship services. While we believe this is a chance for each believer to be a good steward of the gifts they have received from God, you are welcome but not expected to give an offering while you are our guest. If you would like to learn more about the Lord’s ministry here at Trinity please call Pastor Rutz.
He would love to get acquainted and visit at a time that is convenient for you. You are also invited to join members in the fellowship hall after this morning’s service.
Attendance Cards: Visitors and members are asked to fill out an attendance card and to list names of each family member in attendance. Turn in your card at the back of the church at the end of the service.
On Sundays when there is Holy Communion please list the names of those who will be communing on the Holy Communion registration side of the card. Hand it to an usher as you go up for communion.
If you have moved or your phone number or email address have changed, please note any changes on the attendance card so that we can update our records in the office.
Weekly bulletins, announcements, and sermons continue to be available on the church website.
Children in the Divine Service Sheets are available from the basket in the back of the church. Parents are encouraged to read these to/with their children. Each week will have a short explanation of a different part of the church service or about something found in the church. They are another way to aid parents in teaching their children.
Church’s Flat Roof: At the last voter’s meeting it was approved to hire Options Exteriors Co. to replace the flat roof above the west end of the church. Estimated cost will be $32,000-$38,000. Anyone who would be willing to contribute towards these expenses may do so by using a Building Fund envelope found in your offering box.
Vacation: Office assistant will be out of the office this week.
Food and Fellowship tonight: All are welcome. Bring a snack to share and lawn chairs and meet by the firepit.
Volunteers Needed: This Tuesday Aug.12 from 9:00-2:00 and Wednesday 13 from 9:00-2:00 have been set as volunteer work dates for some outdoor projects for Trinity Preschool. Please provide your own work items. Materials have been purchased for 5 outdoor preschool projects.
Boards will meet at 6:30 this Wed., Aug. 13 or at a date/time set by each committee chair.
Church Council will meet at 7:00 pm this Wed., Aug. 13.
Endowment Fund Committee Meeting will be held next Sunday, August 17, following Divine Service.
Save the Date: Sunday, August 31, 5-7 pm for Preschool’s Fundraiser Back to School BBQ and Silent Auction: We have big and small green flyers for you to hand out to neighbors and to post around town. They are found on the table in the narthex. We need your help with items for the silent auction. We are asking the ladies to donate something purple and/or gold on behalf of LWML, and the congregation is asked to donate something Iowa Hawkeyes and/or ISU Cyclones. Put your donation(s) in the designated box in the Narthex by August 24, and the committee will put them together for the silent auction. If you, someone you know, or your business would like to donate your own silent auction basket or items, please have them ready and delivered to Fellowship Hall by 9:00 a.m. on August 30. If you have questions, contact Alexis Swanson at 641-344-6084. The Preschool Board appreciates your support.
Cookies/Bars for the BBQ are needed: Please sign up, on a sheet found on the table in the narthex, to donate 2 dozen unfrosted cookies or bars for the BBQ. Please have them individually cut and wrapped. They need to be delivered to the Fellowship Hall by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30. We need 9 more people to each provide 2 dozen. We’re planning for 400 people so we need your donations.
Stewardship Message from the District Office During the month of August, it's a wonderful time to reflect on the principles of biblical stewardship. Stewardship is not just about managing our resources wisely, but also about recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. By embracing these principles, we can honor God with our wealth, talents, and time, and make a positive impact in our communities. Here is a biblical stewardship sentence to inspire and guide us through the upcoming week.
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." - 1 Peter 4:10
Tip: Identify your unique gifts and talents and find ways to use them in service to others. Volunteer at your church or local community organization.
